Yeah Yeah YeahsI am sure I am not the first person to say this, and I’m sure I won’t be the last… That Karen O is some kind of hot sauce!

Straight out of the bottle with the new release, Show Your Bones, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs continue to heat up the indie music scene. But I’ll admit, the first few listens were a bit disappointing. After being seasoned with Fever to Tell and it’s scratchy, edgy vocals coupled with fast paced melodies, this sophomore release seemed a little watered down.

I’m glad I listened a few more times. I’m glad Karen O and the boys changed my mind. Instead of the previous style of Fever to Tell, Show Your Bones has a more polished quality to the vocals, as well as a more complex music styling.

Tracks such as “Gold Lion,” “Way Out” and “Phenomena” all have catchy hooks mixed with Karen O’s breathy vocals, making them sure to linger in your head long after the songs are over. “Honeybear” and “Cheated Hearts” retain a more playful, off-the-cuff sound while “Dudley and Warrior” sound like songs you would hear at your local carnival: haunting, inspiring, and with a maudlin quality.

Within these qualities, Show Your Bones represents itself as a more approachable record than its predecessor and still insures its place on my list of Hot Sauce Rock.
