I could've sworn Piebald was an emo band. Not that that word really means much anymore, but I certainly wasn't expecting what I got when I put this CD in. "All Ears, All Eyes, All The Time" reminds me oddly of that drama kid--you know what I mean, every high school had one. The guy was in all the school plays, who always had to be the center of attention, whose singing might not have been the best but he made up for it in enthusiasm? That guy. If that guy had a band, it would be Piebald.

 

"We want to make music that . . . makes people say, 'Wow, I've never heard anything like this before,'" says singer Travis Shettel about his band, and they certainly don't sound like everyone else. They range from indie-punk to piano-pop on this album, with a sense of humor that is less nasty and more witty than most bands. It's different, skipping the keyboards used so often these days in favor of an actual piano, and one gets the feeling that these guys don't care how cool you think they are--like that drama guy in high school. Which in itself is inherently cool.
