Dogeared Jewels & Gifts, based
out of Venice, CA was founded by Marcia
Maizel-Clarke in 1991. Clarke was a buyer
for Macy’s while she started creating her
own line of simple, inspired jewelry. Before long,
she was selling her own line to several Macy’s
stores and swap meets.
Dogeared features a wide variety of inspirational
necklaces, earrings, bracelets and more. Each
piece has its own unique message, of which there
are many: Peace, love, dream, BFFs, you name it.
Dogeared’s designs are all small and simple,
yet powerful. These creations are perfect for
gift giving, as Dogeared also has specific items
for moms, daughters, and girlfriends, as well
as occasions—birthdays, Valentine’s
Day, Mother’s Day, and so on.
As a female, and one that makes jewelry in her
spare time, I can tell you that there is definitely
something for everyone from this company, whose
catalog is available online at www.dogeared.com.
Dogeared designs offer a wide variety of prices
and designs, making it unique among jewelry sellers.
Offering several options for every budget, prices
start at $22 and go up to $172, and most items
are available in gold and silver.
Check out the Karma Necklace
($50 - $172, depending on metals and gems), a
beautiful and simple necklace with a circle in
the center, and a sweet little reminder that “What
goes around, comes around…wear your necklace
as a reminder to keep the circle positive, peaceful
and loving.”
The Gold Dipped Peace Bracelet
($38) features a simple gold peace sign tied off
with a thin, single, buttery leather strap and
clasp. The simplicity of its message is clear
while entertaining many different meanings within
its realm. The Grace Necklace
($72) is a bit more on the spendy side, but features
a tiny pair of silver angel wings and an even
tinier gold heart, suspended from an equally tiny
silver ball chain.
The company also gives back. Their Make
a Wish to Stomp out Breast Cancer necklace
($30) features a tiny little wishbone that hangs
from a pink string, and 100% of its proceeds go
to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Additionally, Clarke and her husband donate to
and support One Voice (www.onevoice-la.org),
a Santa Monica charity that assists families living
in poverty.
Dogeared’s philosophy is, “We make
products we are proud of, we work with people
we admire, and everything is about team. We respect
everyone’s opinion, and people are proud
and excited to be a part of what we do everyday.”
